Obese children - for private profit
Thursday, 24 November 2011 14:06In schools across America today, pizza is a vegetable; double the national recommendation for adult maximum daily intake of sodium is healthful and satisfactory for children.
This Congressional political decision at the expense of our children's health and in favor of multinational corporate food suppliers is the law of the land - again. The expenses for near and distant future medical care and coverage for these ill-fed children is not being mentioned or considered in a political landscape where money talks as "free speech."
Corrupt legislators have again made certain that even the smallest attept is denied to alleviate the American obesity epidemic among our children. Parents are given yet one more prompt to abandon free public schools in favor of privatized (publicly tax-supported and profitable) or private schools. "Save the Children from Obesity" becomes the rallying cry to feed corporate "school reform" which are not subject to this particular public school legislation.
I spite of being told that corporations are people and pizza is a vegetable and money is free speech, we all know better at some level of our consciousness.
