Green Jobs Reach 2.7 Million: The “Clean Economy” Starts Delivering on its Promise of High-Wage Jobs, Brookings finds
"Numerous reports have shown solid growth in the “clean economy” over the years. But what we’re seeing now is that the clean economy is just, well, a normal part of the overall economy — albeit one with higher wages and more value-added.
Growth in jobs, wages, and GDP has been too slow, for sure, but the clean economy has been one of the few brights spots.  From 2003 to 2010, the clean economy grew by 8.3% — almost double what the overall economy grew during those years. That’s according to a comprehensive report released today by the Brookings Institution that tracked the growth of these sectors over a 15-month period of time.
Urgent action needed to stop Tar Sands Pipeline.

Tell President Obama to reject a pipeline for the world's dirtiest oil.
In Canada's tar sands, giant oil corporations are turning huge tracts of pristine forest into a wasteland of open pit mines, smoke stacks and toxic lagoons. This pollution is causing cancer hot spots in indigenous communities downstream.
Now Big Oil wants to double imports of toxic tar sands oil into U.S. by building a new pipeline called the Keystone XL. This pipeline would endanger the health of communities and ecosystems all along its path from Canada to the Gulf Coast of Texas.
President Obama has the final say. Please join FRIENDS OF THE EARTH in calling on him to reject the Keystone XL pipeline and focus on clean, safe energy alternatives.

Energy Briefs: Nuke power, coal, wind...

Thursday, 17 March 2011 03:03

ENERGY BRIEFS: FLORIDA: Nuke plant opening delayed in Crystal River. USA: Coal-fired plants to finally be subjected to new emissions standards. CHINA: coal-fired plants pollute less than U.S.; for last four years, doubled wind energy capacity every year; suspends building of 27 new nuke power plants. JAPAN: Nuke power operates secretly with cover-ups; nuke plant explosion on video.

Nuclear is not an option.

The unfolding tragedy in Japan this week paints a far too dark and ominous backdrop for what was supposed to be my follow up report on the Sustainability 2011 conference last week at F.I.T.
