10 Years Of War In Afghanistan

On October 6th 10 years ago the "global war on terror" began in Afghanistan. We have been at war in Afghanistan longer than WWI, WWII and the Korean Wars combined - with no end in sight.

10 years of war and occupation in Afghanistan have left hundreds of thousands dead, displaced millions, institutionalized torture, and brought our economy to near collapse.

The human cost of this war has been great and paid by innocent civilians, the blood of American troops and the broken hearts of our Military families.

While the United States will spend $1 trillion for war, occupation and weapons, more and more Americans are loosing their homes, their jobs and are uninsured. We are struggling to fund our schools. Our libraries are closing and our legislators are cutting services to the most vulnerable in our society.

Weary of war public opinion has turned against the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq but there is little indication the occupations will change. Military bases remain in place and the numbers of security contractors are increasing.

Additionally NATO with full support from the U.S. has initiated new wars in Libya, Pakistan, Yemen and Somalia with drone attacks.

This is not the change so many of us labored with so much hope for. We must as a Nation reflect on the lessons of these disastrous wars and end them. Congress and the Administration must pledge full support for our returning troops who suffer from the wounds of war and focus on rebuilding America. .

We cannot afford these wars either morally or financially and must end them.
