Save Public Campaign Finance in Florida

ACTION ALERT: FIX, DON'T REPEAL PUBLIC CAMPAIGN FINANCE IN FLORIDA

CONTACT STATE SENATORS BEFORE WED., MAR. 5

Florida State legislators have submitted identical bills to the House and Senate that call for Repeal of Florida?s Public Campaign Finance Act to be placed on the November, 2008 ballot.  The Public Campaign Finance Act was originally implemented to limit special interest money in politics.  While it has not worked well, repealing it will only benefit special interests, not the people of Florida.  The Act must be fixed ? not repealed.

We must work to defeat this bill as it moves through committees, or it will appear on the November ballot. The Fla House Committee on Ethics and Elections has already approved placing Repeal of the Act on the November ballot. The Senate Committee is expected to vote on the Senate Bill next Wednesday, March 5, 2008.

Please contact all of the Senators on the committee (listed below) and tell them you expect them to work for the benefit of Florida?s citizens and vote against Senate Bill 958 and work to bring ?Clean Elections? to Florida.

It's best to contact all of them, but if you can't, please be sure to contact Sen. Constantine (Chair), Sen. Justice (Vice Chair), and our own Bill Posey (Dist. 24, parts of Brevard, Seminole, Orange), who will be looking for congressional votes in November.

ADDITIONAL INFO: An alternative form of Public Campaign Finance, called Clean Elections, is working in several states and two cities.  It puts the voters in charge and frees candidates and politicians from the necessity of becoming obligated to special interests in order to be elected.  Clean Elections also saves tax payers a great deal of money ? money that will not go to special interests as pay back!  See www.publicampaign.org for more information.
