California takes first step towards clean and fair elections
In an historic upset to the political establishment, Governor Schwarzenegger has signed AB 583 (Hancock), the California Fair Elections Act, opening the door to truly clean and fair elections in California.
"Special interests have a stranglehold on Sacramento.
Here's how it works.
The money comes in.
The favors go out.
The people lose."
- Arnold Schwarzenegger
If approved by popular vote in June 2010, the measure will establish a pilot project for voluntary full public financing for Secretary of State candidates in 2014 and 2018.

With about 20 months until the June 2010 election, the California Clean Money Campaign is ready to expand the coalition that passed AB 583 and activate its plan to educate California's 20 million voters about the benefits of publicly funded campaigns. This grassroots effort will call for the sustained energy of thousands of activists and the resources to reach every community in the state.
