Being Black In America: An Open And Honest Conversation Featured

Written by  Team SCPA

The color of your skin will likely effect how you will be treated during a traffic stop, at a restaurant, and in a courtroom.

The social scientist Robert Terry wrote: “To be white in America is not to have to think about it.” Perhaps that is the best definition of “White Privilege.”

Beginning with slavery, America has been plagued by racial inequality, bigotry, hate crimes and discrimination.  If we are ever going to heal these wounds, we’ve just got to face them head-on, and commit to build a fairer, friendlier, and more just society.

Our June 7th event, “Being Black in America: an Open and Honest Conversation” will examine economic inequality, white privilege, the new Jim Crow, sentencing inequality, and the Black Lives Matter movement – and more.  We will have a talented panel of thoughtful experts who will help us explore these critical issues. As usual, we expect our audience to join the conversation in a free-flowing Q&A session.

Won’t you join us?

Young or old, rich or poor, regardless of race, gender or political leaning, you are are always welcome at the SCPA.

Please join us on Thursday, June 7th at 6:30 p.m. at the Front St. Civic Center, 2205 S. Front St., Melbourne, FL.  Our events are always FREE and open to the public.
