Remembering Carol Luntz -- An Obituary
A long time SCPA member
Died March 6, 2017

Carol Luntz typified 'the strength of SCPA: smart, active and always pitching in for the greater public good.'

Following a long period of illness, Carol Luntz died March 6. There will be a private family service only, no open funeral or memorial service.

In 2008, Carol Luntz served as a Member Delegate to the SCPA Board of Directors.

SCPA member Susan Martin: "Carol was a special being. As far back as I can remember, Carol was there at SCPA, helpful in so many ways. I knew her first as an artist, she was an active photographer when I was heavily involved with the Artists' Forum. Then there were the many days at the Peace Corner (organized by SCPA's Vicki Impoco), followed by her years of participation with SCPA. Carol helped a lot with the Voices event we had at Henegar, and at so many other SCPA events."

Adapted from SCPA's January 2008 Progressive News & Calendar: Carol was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, having served a short time when she was "young and foolish" (her words). She retired from Computer Sciences Raytheon and Pan Am at Patrick AFB. She received a B.S. in Legal Studies from the University of Central Florida. Known as a rabble rouser from day one, Carol protested safety conditions, gender inequality, and helped get rid of an unscrupulous branch of the IBT union. A founding member of Brevard Citizens for Choice, Carol lobbied countywide for abortion rights during the campaign for the 23rd Amendment (Right to Privacy) to the Florida Constitution. She shares fellow SCPA members' concerns regarding erosion of constitutional guarantees and current foreign policy. Carol enjoys the progressive book club meetings and has actively participated in Patriots for Peace vigils. She has lived in Brevard County for over 40 years, has two daughters who graduated from local high schools and state universities, and two grandsons in local grammar and middle schools. She has supported the expanded sex education programs appropriate for each age.

From SCPA's Space Coast Progressive, October 2008, SCPA Member Spotlight: Carol Luntz typifies the strength of SCPA: smart, active and always pitching in for the greater public good. From the Piedmont, this Air Force veteran, world traveler, great reader and photographer earned a BS Degree in Legal Studies at UCF not so long ago. “No education is ever wasted. The other side,” she said, “seems to think you don’t need education in anything!” Carol worked long hours signing up Fest exhibitors, and also does volunteer work for local candidates.

In 2008, Carol was an active volunteer for the Steve Blythe for Congress campaign. (Dr. Stephen Blythe was endorsed by Orlando Sentinel, but Gannett's Florida Today, never adverse to bungling opportunities for good editorial judgment, endorsed their perennial favorite Republican as usual.)

Carol Luntz was a champion, and her many friends at SCPA will miss her.
