Our Message --

• Fully Fund Florida Forever
• Fund Everglades Restoration and Acquire Land South of Lake Okeechobee
• Protect Our Springs

Fully Fund Florida Forever
As our state’s population continues to grow, thousands of acres of parks, wildlife habitat, and undisturbed natural lands already on the Florida Forever priority list are threatened by poorly planned growth and development.. If we do not act now, these conservation lands could be lost to us...forever. Key conservation initiatives like protecting the Green Swamp, our First Magnitude Springs, the Indian River Lagoon Blueway, and many others are less than halfway completed. Voters approved Amendment 1 to ensure funding to finish the job. To fulfill voter intent, the Legislature should restore Florida Forever funding to protect parks, wildlife habitat, and natural lands on the Florida Forever priority list.

Fund Everglades Restoration and Acquire Land South of Lake Okeechobee
Millions of gallons of polluted water from Lake Okeechobee continue to threaten the St. Lucie River, Indian River Lagoon, and Caloosahatchee River. Amendment 1 authorizes the purchase of land in the Everglades Agricultural Area (EAA) that can be used to build a reservoir to allow Lake O water to flow south where it will provide desperately-needed freshwater to the Everglades and Florida Bay. Florida’s Water and Land Legacy supports bonding a portion of Amendment 1 funds in order to purchase land for this critical Everglades restoration project.

Protect Our Springs
Pollution and overpumping are degrading our springs, which are windows into our underground source of drinking water and which feed many of Florida’s great rivers. Acquiring natural areas that surround and buffer our springs is essential to protecting them from further degradation.  Our springs are in crisis. A portion of Amendment 1 funds should be used to acquire springsheds and protect our water at its source.

A special message for Rep. Steve Crisafulli, Speaker of the Florida House of Representatives:
We are following what you do on Amendment 1. We will hold you accountable, even if and when you run for other office.
